Rafting FAQs

Quick answers to the most common questions about rafting.

Which rafting trip should we choose?

It depends on your group’s ages and how much excitement you want. Here’s a quick guide:

  • Salida Valley (Class I–II) — easiest and most relaxed. Minimum age 5+.
  • Bear Creek (Class II–III) — a fun middle option. Minimum age 6+.
  • Browns Canyon (Class III) — the classic whitewater trip with bigger rapids. (Great for adventurous first-timers.)
  • The Numbers (Class IV) — our most advanced trip with continuous action.

If you tell us your group size, ages, and vibe, we’ll point you to the best fit.

Where do your rafting trips take place?

All of our trips are on the Arkansas River near Salida and Buena Vista, Colorado — one of the most popular rafting areas in the country for both family floats and exciting whitewater.

Is rafting safe?

Rafting has inherent risk, but safety is our top priority. Every trip starts with a guide-led safety talk, and we provide properly fitted life jackets and helmets when needed. Trip difficulty and minimum ages can also change based on river levels, so we’ll help you choose the right section for your group.

Do we need experience to go rafting?

No experience needed for our beginner-friendly trips. Your guide will teach you how to paddle, what commands mean, and how to work together as a team. If you’re considering a more advanced trip, we’ll help you decide if it’s the right fit.

What should we wear rafting?

Plan to get wet. Wear quick-dry clothing, secure footwear, and sun protection. Avoid cotton when possible.

  • Swimsuit or quick-dry shorts/pants
  • Quick-dry shirt or rashguard
  • Strapped sandals or water shoes (no flip-flops)
  • Sunglass strap + sunscreen
Do you provide wetsuits or splash gear?

Yes — depending on conditions, we provide the gear you need to stay comfortable (like splash jackets, wetsuits, or other river gear). The river can be cold early season, and we want you to enjoy your trip. And it's always FREE.

How long does a rafting trip take?

Trip time varies by section, river flows, and whether you book a half-day or full-day option. Your experience typically includes check-in, gear-up, shuttle, a safety talk, and time on the river. If you’re planning your day, we recommend giving yourself a generous time window.

Can we book a private trip?

Yes — private trips are a great option for families, groups, and special occasions. If you’d like a private boat (or multiple boats) and a more personalized experience, reach out and we’ll help set it up.
